Started University studying filmmaking production with Boomsatsuma

August 27th 2021

Boomsatsuma have started a range of new university degree courses. One of which is Filmmaking production, allowing for students to learn the professional skills and knowledge to progress into finding a job in the industry. My course of Filmmaking production works close along side filmmaking post production which will mainly focus on  coordination and supervision, editing, assistant editing, colour grading, soundtrack laying, ADR, foley, sound mixing and elements of visual effects. On production you are also shown how to do theses skills to give you a general idea of all the options within the industry to help find you feet into what it is you might find fascinating to go into for a job and vice versa for post production.

Over the past few months so far in filmmaking production I have been able to lean the understanding the key aspects of filmmaking, storytelling, how to use the Black magic pocket camera, zoom recorders, terminology used in the industry, how to create a Risk Assessment, how to reach out to business owners and clients for interviewing and how to work fast when filming on location for a documentary shoot.
As well as leaning all of theses skills we have been able to meet with people who are working professionally as well as people who are just starting off their career in the industry after graduating from university. This is something I find helps me and others get a insight to what  it is like to work in different departments and finding the right pathways in order to progress up and find the right job for you in the industry. Students in both production and post production are also give different opportunities to gain work experience from production company's and rental services to help out and meet new people on site or on location for a shoot.

The course leader (Freya Billington) understands how filmmaking should be taught to this generation and what skills and knowledge are required to help you find a job in the industry for both production and post productions students after graduation. She has directed a short film, short musical, documentary and a short drama which is in the stage of post production as of 2021.
between her passion for filmmaking and directed, Freya has been able to teach the skills she has picked up on herself and teach students herself as she has re-designed and run both (BA Hons) Film at the University of the West of England and (BA Hons) Film Production at University of Gloucestershire. This new course with Boomsatsuma and the body image of Bath Spa is something she has complete control to create an run alongside other lectures :                        David Neal filmmaking production and post production workflow Lecturer,  Kam Gandhi story telling Lecturer and Nirmala Valinciute industry camera Technical Lecturer.
